We are looking forward to attending the Celebration Service for the dedication of the new tower facilities at Cropwell Bishop on Sunday 23rd October. The service will be led by Revd Bronwen Gamble and the Rt Revd Tony Porter, Bishop of Sherwood and will celebrate how the new additions will open up new possibilities to welcome and serve people in the church and the community.
Space was needed to provide the additional amenities within the church
We developed a scheme earlier this year to provide a new ringing floor, with toilets and kitchen facilities underneath to enhance the current church, making it more accessible for user groups and general church use.
Every place of worship has a mission to its community and the addition of toilet and kitchen facilities can breathe new life into the way a church is used. It can offer a listening ear over a cup of tea, it can inspire outreach possibilities to people whether they are in your own congregation, or from the wider community and it can allow people travelling some distance, as is often the case for people attending weddings or funerals the use of ‘proper’ facilities.
The glazed balustrade to the new ringing floor allows more light and more visibility of the west window from within the church, and for the bell ringers to be better seen and appreciated. The new screen with ‘hidden’ servery, takes its inspiration from existing features of the church so as to enhance the simplicity of the building. The door within the screen provides DDA compliant wheelchair access through to the WC.
