We are delighted that Mount Zion Apostolic Church have been awarded a Round 1 NLHF grant for their ‘Picturing The Past: Celebrating And Conserving Our Heritage Project’.
Following on from the ‘stitch in time’ repairs that we undertook at the church, we were thrilled and excited to be selected from a number of accredited architects during the competitive tendering process to support the church moving forward.
We look forward to working with the whole team to deliver this admirable project that will see this historic 1930s former cinema brought back into church and community use. The works will include external fabric repairs and internal alterations to improve facilities and spaces to meet the churches expanding needs and achieve access for all.
There are a number of challenges with a building such as this. It has a distinct style and Historic England highlighted in their report its importance as a ‘rare survival’, so integration of any modern services will require careful thought and a sensitive approach. The sheer volume of the space will require the Design Team to work in collaboration to find agreeable solutions in terms of functionality and sustainability/environmental performance for the end use verses the impact on the aesthetics, listing and heritage significance.
