Roof Repairs following lead theft
Grade I
St Nicholas Church, Lockington, is a Grade I listed church in the Leicester Diocese.
The Nave, North and South Aisle roofs of St Nicholas Church suffered from lead theft during lockdown, and we were appointed to undertake the repairs. To protect the roofs, temporary protection was arranged until the repairs could be approved and undertaken.
Early discussions between the client and the planning department confirmed that as the church was in an elevated position and the roofs would not be seen, an application for change of material would not be required. Faculty approval for the changes was granted.
A full scaffold access was provided, and the remains of the lead was removed before the roofs were re-covered with stainless steel. The lead gutters were retained.
