Art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder

I find art such a thought-provoking subject

I always remember the saying ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ meaning that we all see things differently, which is what makes the world such a diverse place. I also think art is in the eye of the beholder. When I see a piece of art that I find beautiful, you may see it as ugly. When I see a building with beautiful architecture I can appreciate it even if I don’t like it!

Some people argue that architects are artists and some people would argue that they’re not, but for arguments sake I would call myself artistic! Following a recent trip to Fuerteventura I was really impressed with the colourful artwork and it was not uncommon to see a painted goat on a roundabout! (a bit of a shame really as I couldn’t stop in time to see it as I was too busy concentrating on which side of the road to drive!)

The following piece of artwork was near a local shopping centre, it is called ‘Mama and You’ and symbolises mother-earth and represents the link between nature and human beings. The colours represent the colours of Fuerteventura and signify – the sea, the sand, the volcanos, the earth, the sun and all that surrounds us.
